Letter to the Editor: Bothered by 'Boys Town'

The City of West Hollywood is looking into officially designating the one-mile stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega and La Peer a historic gay district.

The West Hollywood City Council is considering officially naming a section of West Santa Monica Boulevard "."

The definition of "boy," according to the dictionary, is "a male child from birth to puberty...most commonly applies to adult men wither considered in some way immature or inferior."

This term is not only offensive to our gay male population, but also manages to exclude the women and others of our community.

We are not boys. We are a deverse community of pride.

With all respect, I ask the West Hollywood City Council to find another more inclusive name for this historic section of our city.
