Letter to the Editor: Tennis Courts Besieged by City Hall

Despite one resident's appeal, there still seems to be a disconnect about what to do with the courts atop the West Hollywood Park garage.

Dear Editor,

The three new tennis courts atop the West Hollywood Park garage remain prisoner of Weho's City Hall indecisiveness, despite an appeal through a nearly a month ago.

Two weeks ago, Chris Worley of City Hall acknowledged that he and other staff and supervisors had read the letter by this author. But the courts have remained closed since their completion many months ago. The reason given was that there wasn't a firm plan on how to "administrate" the courts now and in the future.

When asked if the West Hollywood Patch letter modified the overall strategy, Worlan responded that there was still no plan nor date to open the courts, despite the fact that everyone in City Hall had read it.

It is my belief that an independent committee of local citizens should meet with administrators to discuss various ways to make this work for the tennis players in the community, and not just the administrators (none, whom I have been told, are tennis players).

Secondly, to wait for the new library to open, as was also speculated by Worlan as a reason for the delay, is about as silly as waiting for the tennis courts to open. The overall logic, or lack of it, escapes me, since almost everything else in the park is up and running, including the garage.

This inability for City Hall to make a decision about the tennis courts, or to even have a firm plan, is just too frustrating to endure.

I am calling on other tennis enthusiasts in Weho to voice their frustration and concerns here with letters to the editor. We know that at least those messages will be delivered to the right sources.

I am one small voice, but if others weigh in with their voices, maybe the ball will bounce back onto our court, for a change for the better.

Sincerely,
John Pieplow
