Locals, Celebrity Advocates Attend 'Diamonds Not Fur' Gala

A portion of the proceeds from the SpcaLA gala goes to West Hollywood's Fur Free movement.

Animal rights supporters dressed in their best Old Hollywood attire and headed to nightclub in West Hollywood Saturday night for a star-studded charity event. The 1st annual "Diamonds Not Fur" gala saw SpcaLA spokeswoman Betty White, actress Elaine Hendrix, and a slew of other celebrity sponsors—all to benefit the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles and Weho's "Fur Free" movement.

"I chose the SpcaLA to be honored for their work saving thousands of animals' lives all over Los Angeles," Katie Cleary, founder and event producer of "Diamonds Not Fur," said on her website. "A couple months during the planning of the event, I was asked to be the spokesperson for the by Ellen Lavinthal and Ed Buck, who I then brought on board."

At $100 per ticket, guests enjoyed appetizers, an open bar, a live auction and a performance by The Mad Musician. The legendary Betty White presented an award to SpcaLA President Madeline Bernstein, and the party lasted well into the evening.

"Amazing night. The event couldn't have gone better," Cleary wrote on the "Diamonds Not Fur" Facebook page late Saturday night. "Betty White rocks. We raised a ton of money for the West Hollywood movement and I hope the Fur Free bill is going to pass September 19. Thank you to all of the animal lovers who helped support the event and cause!"
