Monday's Scoop: City Hall Closed for 'Official' New Year's Holiday

Government buildings and banks will be closed today, and parking meters and associated time limits will not be enforced.

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Monday in West Hollywood:

City Hall Closed:

Due to the way the holidays fell this year, Monday is a federal holiday. As a result, at 8300 Santa Monica Blvd. will be closed. The regularly scheduled City Council meeting has also been cancelled. The next meeting is set for Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Parking meters and associated time limits, as well as peak hour towing restrictions, will not be enforced today. Permit parking will be enforced, and when the clock strikes midnight, all rules are back in full force. Street sweeping will occur as scheduled tomorrow.

New Laws:

There are a lot of new laws coming into play in California this year, including a bill that protects same-sex spouses and domestic partners of nursing home residents and another that curbs "excessive and automatic" pay increases to local officials. Tree Recycling: 

The city of West Hollywood is offering free Christmas tree recycling until Jan. 14. Just place your tree at the curb for collection on your regular trash day. The city is asking residents to remove all decorations and the tree's base. Do not place your tree in a plastic bag.

Farmers' Market Closed:

As an extension of the holiday weekend, the West Hollywood market in Plummer Park's north parking lot will be closed today, according to the city's calendar.

The Forecast:

The National Weather Service forecasts mostly sunny, with a high near 82 and a low around 67. North northeast wind will be around 5 mph becoming calm.
