New Captain Selected For Sheriff's West Hollywood Station

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – Edward Ramirez was named the new captain at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department West Hollywood Station, officials said Tuesday.

Ramirez, who assumed his new role on Sunday, succeeds Sergio Aloma, who Sheriff Alex Villanueva promoted to commander overseeing the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Custody Division.

According to the sheriff's department, Ramirez is the second captain to be promoted under a new selection process introduced by Villanueva that involves a panel of city and county leadership and the public within the area that the station is located.

"Once all finalists have been interviewed, the panel chair makes a heavily weighted recommendation to the sheriff, who has final consideration in appointing the captain," according to the sheriff's department.

West Hollywood Mayor John D'Amico called Ramirez a "law enforcement veteran who is highly regarded by our community and knows West Hollywood and its unique challenges."

Ramirez has served at the West Hollywood Station since 2015.

Ramirez joined the department in 1990 and served at the Men's Central Jail and then as a patrol deputy at the Temple, Crescenta Valley and Altadena stations before transferring to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Ramirez later moved to the Office of the Sheriff as part of the sheriff's security detail.

"As a sergeant, Ramirez served at Century Station and as a chief's aide at Correctional Services Division before (being promoted) to lieutenant at the Community Transition Unit," according to a sheriff's department statement. "He also served as a lieutenant at several other bureaus."

Ramirez has also assisted in the creation and implementation of the Education Based Incarceration Bureau and Population Management Bureau, as well as the Community Re-entry and Resource Center at the Inmate Reception Center, according to the sheriff's department.

Ramirez's community involvement includes service as a board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena, and the homeless support organization Shelter Partnership. Ramirez describes himself as an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan who enjoys weightlifting and spending time with his family. He is working toward a bachelor's degree in leadership studies.

Ramirez and his wife Roseann have been married for 32 years. They have three adult children and two grandchildren.
