Newsstand Makes News & Sidewalk Cafe Too: Days Away For WEHO/L.A.
Tricky Intersection at La Cienega & Sherwood Slices Next Best Thing To Bread: Croissants, Empanadas & Acai As "Favela" Expands Al Fresca
Proprietor Fellipe Kalil is changing the direction of the brim of his hat, to indicate a new emphasis on snacks and coffee as the main event at Favela newsstand as of next week. Patrons who already enjoy one of the most romantic trompe l'oeil stencil paintings in Los Angeles, now can take in their art and java too, with croissants and Argentinian empanadas, as well as açaà berry juice from his native country, Brazil.
His hours of 7am - 10 pm will stay the same and so will his winning personality, that on Yelp is said to be "super sweet," and Yelp customers have sung the praises of his diligent efforts to secure periodicals from obscure German magazines to the French weekly, Charlie Hebdo. Kalil plans to keep in stock the usual suspects of U.S. papers and magazines.
Favela is on Sherwood, just off La Cienega Blvd: 745 N La Cienega Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90069 and it is a tricky intersection, especially at night.

According to West Hollywood's Walter Davis, Neighborhood Traffic Management Program Specialist, at the Public Works Department:
"The La Cienega/Sherwood intersection is in Los Angeles, just outside of West Hollywood. West Hollywood staff and LADOT are in talks to possibly implement weekday morning turn restrictions from northbound and southbound La Cienega to westbound Sherwood. This measure would reduce the morning Sherwood and Huntley cut-through traffic in the Tri-West neighborhood."
