Park(ing) Day 2012 Kicks Off Near Weho

Weho residents looking for a unique tanning spot might want to venture to l.a. Eyeworks on Friday afternoon.

The l.a. Eyeworks parking lot on the corner of Martel Avenue and Beverly Boulevard will serve as one of several sites across Los Angeles on Friday that will take part in Park(ing) Day 2012.

Park(ing) Day is an annual event founded in 2005 by Rebar, a San Francisco design studio. The event is designed for artists around the world to adopt the task of transforming parking lots into miniature parks for a day.

Last year, according to the Los Angeles Times, 975 of these parklets were designed in 162 cities in 35 countries.

Friday's l.a. Eyeworks parking lot design will be entitled "The Sun-Bedazzler." It will consist of a miniature golf area, a tanning deck, and a small coffee shop setup.

In an LA Times article published Thursday, "The Sun-Bedazzler" is described as "an elaborate wooden deck designed as an extension of the sidewalk where visitors can get tan, work on their putting skills or just hang out."
