Quintessential LA for Rent
Philip Marlowe's apartment in Robert Altman's "The Long Goodbye" could be yours for $2,800 per month.

The Hollywood Hills apartment where Robert Altman’s 1973 film “The Long Goodbye” was shot is for rent, according to a Craigslist listing.
The one-bedroom, one-bath flat in the High Tower Court -- occupied in Altman’s cult classic by private eye Philip Marlowe as portrayed by Elliott Gould -- offers remarkable views of the city from floor-to-ceiling windows in the circular living room.
The listing, which went up last week, says the apartment, complete with private elevator, is available for $2,800 a month.

Located at the end of a cul-de-sac a short walk from the Hollywood Bowl, the unit was also featured in Kenneth Branagh’s 1991 film “Dead Again.” Author Michael Connelly wrote there, and David Copperfield stayed for several years in the 1980s while performing at the nearby Magic Castle, according to the listing.
In the opening sequence of “The Long Goodbye,” which was based on Raymond Chandler’s book, Marlowe is seen in the apartment, trying to feed his cat and speaking to his neighbors -- a group of hippie girls practicing yoga while topless.
