Saturday's Scoop: Weho is Saving the Environment One Yard at a Time
For one weekend, West Hollywood is turning into a citywide thrift shop.

The city's first free citywide yard sale kicks off Saturday in an effort to encourage the West Hollywood community to keep useful items out of the landfill. View the yard sale locations list for WehoGrnWknd, which includes links to maps of each location. There are currently 126 yards registered for the weekend event.Â

As part of its Green Weekend, the City of West Hollywood and California Recycles are sponsoring this event in the City Hall parking lot from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. to help prevent identity theft and protect the environment. Bring your unwanted electronics—televisions, laptops, monitors, cell phones, stereos, scanners and more. To increase awareness of services, local Los Angeles Fire Departments are opening up their stations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help you be better prepared for a disaster. This year, the focus is on Emergency Preparedness. West Hollywood's at 864 N. San Vicente Blvd. and at 7643 Santa Monica Blvd. will be participating.Â
This biannual performance showcase, featuring talented local LGBT youth, is once again taking place at the Barnsdall Theater in Hollywood. Hosted by Prince Poppycock, operatic gender-bending breakout star of last summer’s hit TV show America’s Got Talent, will feature opera, hip hop, comedy and more from our community's most promising young talents. All proceeds go to the performers and tickets are required.Â
The National Weather Service predicts a chance of drizzle and patchy fog before 11 a.m. The high will be near 66, and the low will be around 52. If you plan to go out late Saturday, expect some drizzle after 11 p.m.Â
