Thursday's Scoop: Special Olympics Torch Run Moving Through Town

In preparation for the Special Olympics Summer Games, the LA County Sheriff's Department, including representatives from the Weho station, will participate in the Central leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Thursday in West Hollywood:

Main Event: Law Enforcement Torch Run - Central Leg

The torch, known as the “Flame of Hope,” used to light the Opening Ceremony cauldron of the 2011 Summer Games, will be coming through West Hollywood Thursday afternoon. At approximately 1:57 p.m., LAPD Hollywood personnel will pass off the torch on Sunset Avenue at Havenhurst Drive to West Hollywood Sheriff's Station's Sgt. James Jim Farrell and Dep. Kevin Conner, who will then hand off the torch to the Beverly Hills Police Department. For the entire route, click here

Other Happenings:

  • The Planning Commission Design Review Subcommittee meets at 5:30 p.m. in Room 5 at . A public hearing will be held on 1350 N. Hayworth Ave. Read the full agenda here.

  • The fifth annual Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, running through Sunday at Laemmle's Sunset 5, will begin with a gala opening night screening of Pelican's Watch, about a small community of elders and wine-makers on the island of Santorini, at 7 p.m.
