Sundown Wednesday night marks the beginning of the two-day holiday of Rosh Hashana, and the beginning of the Jewish year 5772.

Main Event: Erev Rosh Hashana
Have the itch to say, "Happy New Year" in September? Well, if you're Jewish, you can. On Rosh Hashana, the blowing of the shofar—a ram's horn—is quite literally a wake-up call to self-improvement. It is a time in which Jews are called to reflection and introspection. Chabad of Sunset is having a candlelighting at 6:25 p.m. at the and will be conducting High Holy Day Services at Immanuel Presbyterian Church (3300 Wilshire Blvd.) at 8 p.m.

City Meetings:Â
- The Senior Advisory Board meets at 2 p.m. in the Community Conference Room. According to the agenda, David Kruskall from the WHEST employment placement, training and job development program of Jewish Vocational Service will speak to the board about the program and its move to the Career Center at the new library, and Corey Roskin will report on the programs planned for the , to be held Sunday in West Hollywood Park.
- A special meeting of the Art on the Outside Subcommittee is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Community Conference Room. Commissioner Dishman will lead the subcommittee in a discussion abut a possible collaboration between the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, the Disability Advisory Board, Tierra del Sol and Metro to feature the works of artists with disabilities, according to the agenda.
