New Library Makes 'Best in Architecture' List

The LA Times recognizes West Hollywood's new state-of-the-art building in its '2011 year in review.'

West Hollywood's prized new library made the Los Angeles Times' Arts & Culture section's "Best in Architecture" for 2011.

"The new library is a stirring reaffirmation of the power of civic architecture that came through the punishing low-bid public construction process with its lively spirit fully intact," Christopher Hawthorne wrote in his 2011 year in review earlier this month.

The $64 million building, designed by MDA Johnson Favaro, houses more than 150,000 print books, along with a coffee bar, additional meeting space and a new parking lot with 400 spaces.
