New car sales hit a record in 2015, according to The Wall Street Journal, with 17.5 million cars, pickups and SUVs sold in this country.
Some Americans finance their vehicles, while others wouldn’t consider driving a new car off the lot unless they’d paid cash.
WalletHub analyzed the nation’s collective car debt and found that we owe an astounding $1.05 trillion. Some of our neighbors budgeted carefully before taking on monthly car payments, while others went so far in debt that they struggle to keep up.

The WalletHub numbers crunchers looked at more than 2,500 U.S. cities to find where residents over spend on vehicles and where we stay within our means, labeled “Most Frugal.”
You may find this surprising, but in the land of freeways, no California city landed on the “Overspend” list. The “Frugal” list was another matter - six California cities made it.
