WEST HILLS, CA – Throngs of campers, joining a Chick-fil-A store-opening tradition, came armed today with tents, games, coolers and hammocks to West Hills to be part of the "First 100" pop-up party in the parking lot of the new restaurant, hoping to win free Chick-fil-A meals for a year.

Chick-fil-A's signature First 100 events, opening-day traditions that date back to 2003, allow the first 100 in line and through the door on opening day to have a chance to win. The West Hills store at 6400 Fallbrook Ave. officially opens Thursday, July 26.

The First 100 events typically begin 24 hours prior to a restaurant opening, and in West Hills, at least 15 or so folks arrived even before that -- despite the heat and including the first person in line -- an individual who recently moved from Texas to California, is a raging Chick-fil-A fan and was thrilled to be at a First 100.

Along with the grand opening festivities, franchise owner Rudy Neal also is including a children's book drive supporting the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley, which serves San Fernando Valley youth.

The campers will be kept hydrated with ice water and tea and fed and entertained throughout their time in a tailgate-type atmosphere that includes music, dancing and an evening lip-sync contest. And in case you were wondering ... those in line sign in and can then use the restaurant's restrooms. (Whew!)
