Hot New Fire Truck-Themed Playground Opens in Woodland Hills

Fire truck themed playground opens at site of former fire station in Woodland Hills.

Fire truck-themed playground equipment is among the features of a small park that opened today at an old fire station site on Costanso Street and Canoga Avenue, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Councilman Bob Blumenfield and other city officials.

The neighborhood park -- which would only serve the surrounding area as it has no parking or bathrooms -- features swings, a seating area and playground equipment.

It stands in place of the old Costanso Fire Station 84 building that had been the local fire station from 1949 until 2007, when the fire station moved to Warner Center.

In response to concerns that the site would become rundown, potentially attracting illegal activity, community input was sought in order to determine how the lot should be used, according to Blumenfield’s office.

Blumenfield said the surrounding neighborhood “is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the Valley, but after years of neglect, the property had fallen into disrepair.”

Following two years of work, “we have transformed what was a blighted piece of land into an incredible neighborhood resource,” he said.
