Kids Jump In Front Of Freeway Traffic In Social Media Stunt
Teenagers were reported walking on the 101 Freeway shoulder and jumping in front of traffic to snap selfies. No injuries were reported.

WOODLAND HILLS, CA — People will pull a lot of stunts for Instagram likes, but this one may cross a literal line: the line between a freeway lane and its shoulder.
On Monday, Aug. 3, the California Highway Patrol responded to several 911 calls reporting five teenagers – aged roughly 13 to 15 – standing on the right shoulder of the 101 Freeway in Woodland Hills, near the Fallbrook Avenue exit, attempting to jump in front of passing cars, according to a CHP Facebook post. The kids were allegedly walking onto the freeway and taking selfies of pics of each other, while standing just a foot away from cars traveling close to 80 miles an hour. One caller reported that one of them had crossed into the slow lane.
CHP units arrived and stopped all freeway traffic. When the officers arrived, the kids fled on the off-ramp, but were quickly rounded up and brought to the station. During a “nice long talk” with the officers, the teens said that they had taken a bus to go hiking, but that didn’t pan out, so they decided to do the next-best thing: jumping out into the freeway.

The Facebook post said that the teens are all safe, and their parents came to pick them up from the station. Officer Weston Haver of the CHP said that adults would be given a ticket for walking along the freeway, but couldn’t comment as to whether the teens received anything more than a talk.
The CHP officers on-scene were not available to comment on the incident.
