Bloomberg: 4 Colorado Billionaires Are Among World’s Richest

The Bloomberg Billionaire Index tracks the world’s 500 richest people on an almost continuous basis, with the figures getting updated after the close of every trading day at the New York Stock Exchange.

Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon, maintains his spot as the richest person in the world. Overall, 176 of the 500 richest individuals are American, and United States citizens also make up seven of the top 10 richest people globally.

In Colorado, four people are among the 500 richest people in the world.

Here are the billionaires from our state that are on the elite list:

Phil Anschutz

• Total Net Worth: $12.1 billion
• Industry: Diversified
• Age: 79

Anschutz’s wealth could buy:

• 9.8 million troy ounces of gold
• 228 barrels of crude oil

“Anschutz owns Anschutz Corp, a conglomerate that controls the world's largest group of sporting teams and events. Its AEG division has stakes in the Los Angeles Lakers, a National Basketball Association team, and hockey's LA Kings," his Bloomberg overview read. "Other investments include oil and gas assets, luxury hotels and Colorado water rights.”

Charlie Ergen

• Total Net Worth: $12.2 billion
• Industry: Media and telecom
• Age: 66

Ergen’s wealth could buy:

• 9.8 million troy ounces of gold
• 229 million barrels of crude oil

"Ergen is chairman of Dish Network, the fourth-largest pay-TV service in the U.S. The publicly traded company has about 12 million paid subscribers and runs Blockbuster's @Home streaming service," his Bloomberg overview read. "He controls EchoStar, a satellite equipment manufacturer servicing space flight operations and government satellites."

John Malone

• Total Net Worth: $7.9 billion
• Industry: Media and telecom
• Age: 78

Malone’s wealth could buy:

• 6.4 million troy ounces of gold
• 149 barrels of crude oil

"Malone is chairman of Liberty Global, a TV and broadband company with 17 million customers and $11.4 billion of annualized revenue in 2019," his Bloomberg overview read. "He owns stakes in Discovery Communications and Formula One and numerous tracking stocks, and is the largest private U.S. landowner with more than 2 million acres."

Pat Stryker

Stryker’s wealth could buy:

"Stryker is a shareholder of Stryker Corp., a medical device manufacturer founded by her grandfather. She owns more than four percent of the company; two siblings own another 10 percent," her Bloomberg overview read. "She owns real estate in Fort Collins, Colorado, and founded the Bohemian Foundation, which focuses on progressive causes."
