Large Fire Shuts Down I-70, Forces Evacuations

ACROSS COLORADO—Interstate 70 is closed in both directions between mile markers 116 and 133 through Glenwood Canyon due to a large fire burning in the area.

Crews on scene said that one helicopter is on scene and four heavy air tankers are en route.

According to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office, the Grizzly Creek Fire, which was originally referred to as the 120 Fire, is about 50 acres in size. Firefighters said residents living in the area of Bair Ranch Grizzly Creek have been ordered to evacuate.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

5 p.m. Monday Update: The active wildfire continues to burn in Glenwood Canyon near Grizzly Creek (about six miles east of the main Glenwood Springs Exit). Currently, there is heavy air attack taking place. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place over the fire. No drones or UAS (unmanned aerial systems) are authorized in the area

6 p.m. Monday Update: The Grizzly Creek Fire is reporting around 1,300 acres with over 60+firefighters on scene. Heavy air attack with four Heavy Air Tankers, two Single Engine Air Tankers (SEAT) and a Type I and Type III helicopter.
