Officers Shoot Man In Arvada After Armed Carjacking: Police

A man was shot to death after he opened fire at officers on Garland Drive, police said.

ARVADA, CO — Officers were involved in a fatal shooting Wednesday in Arvada, police said.

A man threatened a woman around 8:35 a.m. with a long-barreled shotgun in the Target parking lot, at 78th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard, according to the Arvada Police Department.

The man then took her phone and her vehicle, a black GMC Yukon, police said.

The suspect drove off and struck a fire hydrant in the 8100 block of Garland Drive, and then fired a shot at officers, according to police.

The officers returned fire and struck the man, and he was pronounced dead soon after, police said.

No officers were injured in the shooting, authorities said.
