53-Years Of Color: Boulder Artist Retrospective At Arvada Center
Virginia Maitland, abstract expressionist and Colo. artist since 1965, shows a career's worth of works next month.

ARVADA, CO – Acclaimed Boulder abstract expressionist painter Virginia Maitland will be showing a retrospective of her 53-year Colorado career at the main gallery of the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities beginning in September.
Maitland is considered "one of the region’s premier abstract colorists" and has been painting and working in Colorado since 1965.
Over 45 artworks will be shown, along with "other archive materials," the Arvada Center said.

Maitland is known for her "color field" work, which uses brushes and other techniques, such as 15-20 layers of poured paint.

In the Arvada Center Theater Gallery, soft sculptor Laura Merage will exhibit : Nausy Nausy from Sept. 13 - Dec. 23.
"The title, NausyNausy, is meant to evoke the words we coo to children when they pet an animal or touch something fragile, to be nice, to be gentle, to be considerate. This installation will flow from the walls to the floor and feature a few huggable pillows and comfortable seats so visitors can immerse themselves in plush color," the Arvada Center said.
Connected by Color, a group exhibit by four artists, comes to the Upper Gallery from Sep. 13 - Nov. 11.

Patricia Aaron works in encaustic, Jennifer Ivanovic pours acrylic paint straight into her composition, Sue Oehme is a master printmaker, and Jodi Stuart creates ethereal sculptures using 3D printing pens.
A free Opening Reception for all three exhibitions takes place Thursday, September 13, 6 - 9 pm
The Arvada Center Galleries are open Monday - Friday 9 a.m. 6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. The galleries remain open until 7:30 p.m. on evenings with theatre performances. Free docent-led tours of the gallery exhibitions and history museum are available to groups of five or more. To schedule a tour call the Arvada Center's gallery/museum tour line at 720-898-7255.
