Air Force Veteran, Lisa Smith, Runs for Arvada City Council
Lisa Smith, Air Force Veteran and Social Worker, Announces Run for Arvada City Council At-Large in November 2021.

ARVADA, Colo. - Lisa Smith, an Air Force Veteran, social worker, and resident of Arvada, announces her candidacy for Arvada City Council. Smith kickstarted her campaign by raising more than $46,000 in individual donations for the at-large seat to be decided by voters in November 2021. If elected, Smith will be the first-ever female veteran to hold this office.
She will host her campaign kick-off party on June 12th at 1:30 at 6150 Pierce St Arvada CO 80003.
This is Smith’s first run for public office. She brings a unique perspective rooted in years of military service and a career spent providing home-based social services to families in need. Smith has also worked tirelessly to help vulnerable communities recover from disasters through her humanitarian work locally and abroad.

“Being a case manager and community social worker, I’ve seen the struggles communities are faced with when they do not have the right support, services, or smart policies that work for them. I will use my experience and skills to ensure all voices and needs are heard in Arvada,” Smith added.
She arrived in Colorado over a decade ago by way of the United States Air Force. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in social work from Colorado State University in 2013 and Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College. She later served as an intensive case manager in Larimer County, piloting a nursing home reintegration program while also helping veterans find critical resources and services.

Smith brings years of experience in emergency management, having responded to numerous floods and wildfires in Colorado. She knows how to effectively respond to emergencies, build resilient communities and take action under pressure. In the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Smith put together a hand sanitizer workshop within days and distributed several thousands of bottles of sanitizer, personal protective equipment, and food to local businesses, nonprofits, and residents.
“I’ve seen the compounding negative impacts that short-sighted policies can have on families. I am running to advocate for all of our neighbors to bring smart policy that will elevate their lives,” Smith added.
Smith currently serves on: Jeffco Community Services Advisory Board, Arvada Chamber Government Affairs Committee, Colorado Senior Lobby, Congressmen Perlmutter’s Veterans Advisory Committee, HCPF Choice Transitions, and the National Association of Social Workers.
