Art Drop Arvada Comes To A Park Near You

Get ready to get muddy this weekend if you want to find a secret artistic treasure as part of Art Drop Arvada.

ARVADA, CO – It might be a bit muddy and goopy at an Arvada park this weekend, but if you're willing to brave the elements you can snag yourself a one-of-a-kind artistic treasure.

Saturday, March 16, Art Drop Arvada will be continuing its 2019 crusade to hide original works of art by local artists in public places for careful hunters to find.

Art Drop Arvada is the brainchild of artist Emily Grace King, who posts clues on Instagram at @artdroparvada on the third Saturday of the month to send art-seekers to a local park.

Hint: This weekend the Arvada park selected is Four Acre Lake Park. You can also find dropped artwork in Olde Town on First Fridays.

To keep things hyperlocal, King asks local artists to create works that are inspired by the parks where the pieces are hidden. Each artist (from Arvada and nearby) creates between 6 - 12 original pieces or prints for the hunt.

Don't worry, each piece is carefully protected in a professional plastic art sleeve, so they won't get muddy or wet while being left outside, King said.

The Instagram page is filled selfies of with happy hunters claiming their original works.

Last year, 225 pieces of original art were hidden and found at 18 art drops in public spaces. King hopes to expand this year with partnerships with Arvada's Business Improvement District and the Arvada Center as well as other local organizations.

As the project gets more successful, King says her only challenge is "finding more and more sneaky places to hide the art."
