Arvada Boy Dies After 'Early Halloween' In Olde Town

Cancer patient Jaxon Baumgard, 5, got to celebrate with a special costume built around his wheelchair Saturday.

ARVADA, CO – An Arvada boy with terminal cancer got to celebrate Halloween early in Olde Town this weekend just before he died, his family members said.

Jaxon Baumgard, 5, spent much of his short life as a cancer patient, but when things took a turn for the worse, his doctors told his family he likely wouldn't make his sixth birthday.

Businesses in Olde Town Arvada handed out trick or treat candy on Saturday for Jaxon and family members.

"He always smiles. He laughs, he loves running, jumping. He's amazing," his mother Amber told KDVR. "You would have never known he had cancer until the last week."

Jason even had a special costume made just for his wheelchair, created by Walkin' and Rollin' Costumes in Kansas City.

"Jaxon's mother sent in a request and explained how Jaxon was on hospice, and this was going to be his last Halloween," Walkin and Rollin's Lon Davis told KDVR. "I looked at the request, I showed it to my wife and she read it, and looked at me and said, 'Well, we're making it.' There was no doubt that we were going to make it."

The Davis family drove the wheelchair horse costume 600 miles and Jaxon rode his "horse" in a cowboy suit in Arvada.

"I think it's incredible," Amber Baumgard told the station.

On Sunday, Jaxon died, his mother told Fox31.

A GoFundMe account was set up for Jaxon's family to deal with his cancer expenses. Now it will help pay for his funeral, his aunt said.

"Jaxon Taylor Baumgard, you changed this world. I hope you see the impact of all the lives you have changed. We love you soooo much sweet boy! We will never forget you," his aunt posted on GoFundMe. "I know he was so grateful for all the love that was shown to him."
