Arvada Waste, Recycling Program: Selection Deadline Approaches

The city is encouraging residents to respond with their service level selection by Sunday.

ARVADA, CO — The city of Arvada is asking residents to select their service level for the waste and recycling program by Sunday.

As of Monday, around 60 percent of Arvadans had submitted responses, the city said. Those who choose a different hauler from the city's program are also asked to submit responses.

Many Arvadans have been critical of the program, and say the city did not get a good deal for residents; however, the city maintains that Republic Services went through a competitive proposal process and the new system will reduce waste hauling costs for most residents.

If you have your service level selection postcard, you're asked to follow the instructions on the card to make your selection. The city recommends you respond by phone, website or email to ensure your selection is received as soon as possible.

If you have lost your service level selection postcard, you're asked to call a city customer service member to make your selection at 720-898-7575 or through email: wastehauling@arvada.org (include your name, service address, contact phone number and the service level you would like to select).

The service level selection is available to around 26,500 households who currently hire their own waste hauling companies, the city said. Apartment and condominium complexes with eight or more units and commercial properties are not eligible to participate in the city’s program. The city offers an eligibility search for residents.

Residents can choose between the following service levels:

  • Level 1: 35-gallon trash cart (holds three 13-gallon waste bags) and 95-gallon recycling cart for $11.50 per month.
  • Level 2: 65-gallon trash cart (holds six 13-gallon waste bags) and 95-gallon recycling cart for $15.63 per month.
  • Level 3: 95-gallon trash cart (holds ten 13-gallon waste bags[BI3] ) and 95-gallon recycling cart for $19.76 per month.
  • Minimum Service: Residents hire or maintain their own hauler for $5.13 per month.

Residents who selected service levels 1, 2 or 3: Cart delivery will begin in June. When your carts are delivered, look for educational materials attached to the recycling cart to help you start recycling correctly, the city said. Service calendars will also be mailed before July 5, the first week of service. Drop off events are being scheduled and will be announced as soon as they are available, officials said.

Residents who selected minimum service: Drop off events are being scheduled and will be announced as they are available, the city said. Check with your hauling company to get information about using their recycling service as the city’s organized waste hauling ordinance requires all haulers to provide curbside recycling.

Residents in HOAs with organized waste hauling: You will remain with your current hauler and there is no action to take. Drop off events are being scheduled and will be announced as soon as they are available, the city said.
