Arvada's Secrest Recreation Center Opens To The Public

New $7.4 million Arvada facility includes cardio/weight room, teen center, gym, and warm-water wellness pool.

ARVADA, CO – Arvada's brand new Secrest Recreation Center officially opened its doors Tuesday at 6820 W. 66th Ave. The new 21,500 sq. ft. facility includes a cardio/weight room, teen center, gym, and warm-water wellness pool. The location has been the official headquarters of the Apex Park District since the 1960s. The center is also the site of an outdoor pool and inline skate rink.

The rec center upgrade bond-issue for $7.4 million was approved by voters in 2016.

"Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate our grand opening and thank you to Apex voters for approving the 2016 bond issue. Because of you, we have been able to bring this multi-generational recreation center to the Secrest neighborhood," the staff posted on Facebook Tuesday.

The old rec center was torn down. But some of the old was incorporated into the new. Wood from the old Secrest gym floor was incorporated into the welcome desk in the new center.

Although the center is expanding its scope to serve more than just teens, the teen programs have also been upgraded. The "all new" teen center features a pool table, ping pong, foosball, Pop-a-Shot basketball, air hockey, video game center and multiple TVs. Teens can also use the gyms and pools.
