Audition For 'Trav’lin–The 1930s Harlem Musical' At Arvada Center
Auditions will be held in Arvada and New York City for rehearsals beginning in March.

ARVADA, CO – Dust off your fedoras and dancing shoes. The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will hold auditions for “Trav’lin – The 1930s Harlem Musical” on Nov. 27, and in New York City, on Jan. 9, 2019.
The production seeks principals and understudies with strong acting, singing and dancing chops. The play will be an Equity LORT B production but non-equity actors will be considered.

George – African American male. 60’s. Retired Pullman porter, Church Deacon, and unofficial Mayor of 132nd street. Vocal Range: powerful, strong tenor / high baritone. G above middle C
Billie – African American female. 60’s. The sweetheart George left behind 40 years ago. Strong and direct with a mind of her own. Vocal Range: big voiced Blues singer – alto / low mezzo. Belt up to D

Archie – African American male. 30’s. A numbers runner and a self-styled ladies’ man. A flirt but has a deep down love for Roz. Vocal Range: smooth character type jazz voice, high baritone. G above middle C
Roz – African American female. 30’s. Beauty Shop owner of Roz’s House of Beauty. Archie’s long suffering woman. Vocal Range: sassy high alto / mezzo. Strong belt / mix up to Eb
Nelson – African American male. 20’s. Traveling bible and hymnal salesman. Ella’s beau. Innocent and insecure, especially about romance. Vocal Range: sweet voiced ingénue tenor / high baritone. High note F# above middle C
Ella – African American female. 20’s. George’s young niece. Staying with him for nursing school. Vocal Range: sweet jazz –pop with a strong belt-mix up to D. Soprano up to F for ensemble
Please prepare 16 -32 bars of music with an emphasis on vocal styles of the 1930s Harlem Renaissance. Preferably up-tempo blues or jazz. Please have a contrasting second selection available if needed. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided.
The play seeks to "bring to life a world of love and jazz through the songs and music of an era of romance," the producers said in a press release.

The performance will be directed by Rod A. Lansberry and choreographed by Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck.
Rehearsals for Trav’lin – The 1930s Harlem Musical begin on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. The production opens Tuesday, April 9, 2019 and runs through Sunday, April 28, 2019. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.
