FREE Kids Fishing Contest At Arvada Reservoir

Bring your bait and pole to Blunn Reservoir June 9 to try to catch small-mouth bass, walleye, catfish, yellow perch and rainbow trout.

ARVADA, CO -- You get a line and I'll get a pole, and we'll meet up at the annual Arvada Kids Fishing Contest at the Arvada Reservoir. This year's free contest starts bright-and-early at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 9 and trophies for the biggest fish are awarded at noon. No registration is required.

Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each of the following divisions:

  • 3 - 5 Years old
  • 6-8 Years old
  • 9 - 11 Years old
  • 12 - 14 Years old

  • Your largest fish must be weighed before 11:45 am. Awards at Noon.
  • Fish will be weighed and measured once, and judge’s decision is final.
  • In case of a tie, the fish that was turned in first to be weighed and measured will win.
  • Boats are not allowed for the fishing contest, children must fish from the shore.
  • Lake will be closed to all public fishing and re-opened at 1:30 p.m.
  • No adults or guardians over age 14 are allowed to fish.

Arvada's Blunn Reservoir is a 180-acre storage reservoir for the city. According to the Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife, the reservoir offers good fishing for small-mouth bass, walleye, channel catfish, yellow perch, and stocked rainbow trout. Rainbow trout are stocked monthly March through September.
