G-Line Horns Reduced During Track Testing: RTD

Software issues still plague crossing gates on other RTD routes, so the G-Line may take awhile, the agency said.

ARVADA, CO – Testing for the long-awaited G-Line trains in Arvada and Wheat Ridge will be reduced daily to hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., the Regional Transportation District announced. That means train horns will no longer sound in the middle of the night as they have been over the past months when testing was conducted between 1 - 3 a.m.

“The simulated schedule testing has progressed well to date, so we are pleased to be able to
trim back the number of daily hours of testing,” said Dave Genova RTD general manager and CEO in a statement. “We are being responsive to the community and doing our part to be a good partner."

Unfortunately for frustrated residents who have been awaiting the G-Line activation, some setbacks with electronic gates on the A-Line have resulted in the return of RTD's flaggers after a “safety critical software problem” was uncovered.

RTD did not give a timeline for the opening to passengers of the G-Line.

"Significant testing and regulatory approvals still remain to be completed," Genova said. "We appreciate the
community’s patience as we work toward revenue service on the G Line.”

As Arvada residents get used to train traffic crossing busy intersections, the city offered the following safety tips:

  • Never trespass on any train track — it is illegal and dangerous.
  • Cross the tracks only at designated crossings, always follow safety signage and obey warning devices like flashing red lights and gate arms.
  • Stay alert and look both ways for a train — you may not hear them coming.
  • Stay off station platforms until they are open to the public.
