High Wind Warning Issued For West Metro Denver

A high wind warning has been issued in Denver's western metro area from noon on Wednesday until noon on Friday, the National Weather Service announced. The alert includes Lakewood, Arvada and Golden.

Wind will pick up Wednesday afternoon and grow stronger while a strong cold front moves across northern Colorado, weather officials said.

There may be a temporary lull in the strong winds Thursday morning, before picking up again in the afternoon, the agency said.

"Secure loose objects and consider removing outdoor holiday decorations," the weather alert read.

"Prepare for possible power outages. Drivers of high profile or lightweight vehicles should monitor conditions and avoid travel during the windiest period which will likely be the early morning hours and during the day Thursday."

A northwest wind will gust around 35 to 45 mph, but could increase to 75 mph, weather officials said.

"Strong winds will blow unsecured objects around," the alert read.

"Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel will be difficult for high profile vehicles."
