ARVADA, CO — Construction began Wednesday in Olde Town Arvada to convert the popular area into a pedestrian mall.

The decision to convert Olde Town was made after streets were temporarily closed during the pandemic to support local businesses. Many community members called for a semi-permanent model, and a survey of nearly 1,800 people revealed the majority were in favor of permanent street closures.

Construction will include redoing crosswalks at main intersections, removing striping on roads and building new medians with traffic barriers and new planters, city officials said.
