Valentine's Day: Date Night Movie Colorado Obsesses Over
Some states like romantic movies than others, but every state has a favorite. See Colorado's obsession.

COLORADO – Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. If Cupid’s arrow pierced your heart this season, remember candles and chocolate aren’t enough — you’ll need the perfect movie to set the mood. So why not go with “The African Queen,” the film most-obsessed over in Colorado.
That’s according to the folks at Streaming Observer, who teamed up with the analysts at Mindnet Analytics to scour Google Trends data and come up with the romantic movie obsessed over most by each state.
Coloradans evidently love the romance of Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn filmed on-site in the Belgian Congo (Hepburn's idea) and how nature and life can bring together two utterly different people. Or something like that.

Overall, Americans can’t get enough of James Cameron’s blockbuster “Titanic,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. In the film — as if you haven’t seen it 100 times already — a 17-year-old aristocrat falls for a struggling artist aboard the R.M.S. Titanic. And, well, you know how the story ends. Suffice to say it made the line “Iceberg ahead” a household phrase.

According to the report, “Titanic” is the single most-searched-for romantic movie in America. It also happens to be the No. 1 most-obsessed-over movie in West Virginia and Wisconsin. Other favorites include “Her,” “Ghost,” “It Happened One Night,” “Sense and Sensibility,” and even “The African Queen.” Each of those films was the top searched for movie in multiple states.
The study also ranked every state and Washington, D.C. based on how obsessed they are with romantic movies. Colorado ranked 20th in the country, behind Missouri and ahead of Indiana. The authors noted some states seem to enjoy romantic movies much more than others. This includes New York, Massachusetts and California. Meanwhile, Mississippi, South Carolina and West Virginia appear to be less concerned with such things.
Here are the 10 states most obsessed with romantic movies:
- New York
