$3.4M South Boulder Road Concrete Replacement Project Begins

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — Drivers can expect delays on South Boulder Road over the next few months while construction is underway. Boulder County Public Works and Concrete Works of Colorado began a $3.4 million concrete panel replacement project Monday.

Crews will be working on South Boulder Road between Cherryvale Road and McCaslin Boulevard. East and westbound traffic on the road will be reduced to one lane at various times and locations, officials said.

Working hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Cyclists will be asked to merge with motor vehicles, so drivers are asked to be cautious when navigating through work zones.

The project will include concrete replacement, drainage improvements and rockfall mitigation on the hillside near McCaslin Boulevard, officials said. Around 8,700 square yards of new concrete — 250 concrete truck loads — will be replaced.

"The contractor has been informed of regulations pertaining to reducing the spread of coronavirus during essential construction projects, which includes social distancing and wearing personal protective equipment," Boulder County officials said in a news release. "County inspectors will be onsite during the work and will ensure that all precautions [are taken]."

The project is expected to be completed by August.
