Having fun with kids in Boulder County doesn't have to break the bank! Here are five fun, inexpensive things to do with the young 'uns.

BOULDER, CO — Summer isn't over quite yet! There's still some time to enjoy fun activities in and around Boulder. Families don't have to fork out the big bucks to enjoy the final days before school starts — there are plenty of fun options that are inexpensive, or better yet, free.

The City of Boulder is encouraging folks to come out and enjoy some of the most popular kids' activities in town:

Pop-Jet Fountain

When the heat starts to wear you out, cruise over to the 1300 block of the Pearl Street Mall to cool down. It's a popular play area that children love.

Tubing down Boulder Creek

Sit in the shade along the shore while the kids glide down the creek. The flow of the creek is gentle enough for youngsters but provides enough excitement for the teens.

Hiking and exploring Chautauqua

Many of the paths are kid-friendly, and they provide great exercise and learning opportunities. Also, the Ranger's Cottage offers free nature discovery packs.

Rock Climbing Wall

The East Boulder Community Center features a climbing wall, with classes available as well as open climbing hours.

COST: $5 entry fee for youths 3-18; $8.25 for adults; $5.75 for seniors

Library Activities

Find the kids' favorite books and a cool spot to sit and read, or settle in for storytime at anyone of the four branches. There is plenty to do for all ages.
