Boulder County To Host Walker Ranch Heritage Day

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — It's one thing to enjoy historical books, shows and documentaries, but how often do you get to experience history in person? Boulder County Parks & Open Space is inviting the public to experience the late 1800s with Walker Ranch Heritage Day, a free event that will feature a vintage baseball game, blacksmith demonstrations, school sessions and children's games.

The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Walker Ranch Homestead, 7701 Flagstaff Mountain Road, which is about seven miles west of Boulder.

Visitors can try their hand at everyday jobs of the late 1800s alongside costumed volunteers. The chores will include doing laundry with a washboard and wringer, churning butter and shingle making. Attendees can also experience one-room school sessions, blacksmith demonstrations, visits to a general store and children's games.

Crowd participation is encouraged to cheer for the county’s own Walker Ranchers during the annual vintage baseball game at noon. Tours of the homestead take place throughout the day.

No food will be available at the event, organizers noted. Pets and bikes are prohibited.
