Boulder County, Colo. - On June 24, 2021, at approximately 6:46 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received the report of a gas leak near the intersection of Vermillion Road and 87th Street in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado.

Firefighters with Hygeine Fire Department were the first to arrive on scene and found a large natural gas pipe leaking. Shortly thereafter, members from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office and Excel Public Service arrived on scene and assisted with evacuating near by homes and closing intersections until the problem could be evaluated.
Excel personnel were able to quickly shut off the gas line and residents were allowed to return home and the roads were opened. There was no interruption in service due to the gas leak.

Upon inspection of the damaged gas line, it was apparent the cause of the leak was due to criminal mischief. The damage to the gas line will be very costly to repair and anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Boulder County Sheriff's Office through the dispatch center at (303) 441-4444. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
