BOULDER COUNTY, CO -- A woman who police believe fired a shotgun at her common-law husband outside of their Coal Creek Canyon home was arrested Saturday, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff's deputies from both Boulder and Jefferson County responded to the Sinclair gas station in the 30,000 block of Coal Creek Canyon shortly after midnight on reports of a shooting in the area.
A preliminary investigation found that the 28-year-old man had been at his home on Signal Rock Drive when his common-law wife, Elena Marie Michael, 36, returned shortly before midnight. She reportedly became upset with her husband over a relationship issue and the two began to argue through a locked door.
According to the sheriff's report, Michael broke through the door and assaulted her husband with a closed fist. He was able to break away and ran outside to a vehicle parked in the driveway, but when he turned around, he saw that Michael was chasing him armed with a shotgun.

The man reported that when Michael pointed the shotgun at him, he instinctively ducked and immediately heard a loud pop and the sound of breaking glass, which showered on him inside of the vehicle. He was then reportedly able to escape and drive to the Sinclair where he called 911.
Michael was located and arrested without incident by sheriff's deputies. She is being held at the Boulder County Jail without bond where she faces charges of attempted second degree murder, criminal mischief, third-degree assault, and child abuse, as the couple's one-year-old son was in the home at the time of the incident.
