Discounted Trees Available To All County Residents
New initiative from the EnergySmart program seeks to help residents save energy.

BOULDER, CO - All Boulder County residents will have the chance to purchase one heavily discounted tree apiece, thanks to an Arbor Day promotion through the Boulder County Sustainability Office's EnergySmart program. The discount allows each household to purchase one five-gallon tree for $25. According to a press release from the county, the program is intended to help residents better understand where to plant a tree on their property to achieve maximum shading effects for the most energy savings.
EnergySmart will offer an online tool that allows residents to pick the best location to plant their tree based on the estimated energy savings it can provide. The four types of trees available will be Bur Oak, Greenspire Linden, Hackberry, and Ponderosa Pine.
Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation explained the value of the program in a statement: “Trees are assets to a community when properly planted and maintained. They help to improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values by up to 18%, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants, and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.”
