Former Buffs Coach Mike MacIntyre Hired At Ole Miss

Coach Mac to head down South for a defensive coordinator position.

BOULDER, CO -- Mike MacIntyre, the former University of Colorado-Boulder head football coach, was fired from his position at CU earlier this fall. The veteran coach appears to have fallen on his feet, as Rivals reported Sunday that he has been hired as the new defensive coordinator for the University of Mississippi. MacIntyre has previously coached the receivers and defensive backs at Ole Miss from 1999-2002.

Rivals reports that per sources, Ole Miss and MacIntyre have agreed to a three-year, seven-figure contract. It was not immediately clear if an assistant coaching position would affect the $10.3 million buyout MacIntyre is owed by CU.

CU athletic director Rick George announced former head coach Mike MacIntyre's firing on Nov. 18, after a week of speculation about such a move. MacIntyre was initially hired in December of 2012, and showed promise through the 2016 season in which he won several national coach of the year awards. MacIntyre. Since then, however, MacIntyre's record had been mixed: his team failed to make a bowl game in 2017, and the second half of their 2018 campaign was win-less.
