BOULDER, CO -- Kevin Kaufman, the executive editor of Boulder's Daily Camera, died Sunday morning of complications from cancer. He was 62. His colleague, Charlie Brennan, wrote an obituary that was published on the front page of today's Camera.

Sad duty of writing an obituary for my boss today - a first, for me; Kevin Kaufman, exec editor of #Boulder Daily Camera. Rest in peace, my friend https://t.co/QFlm8TvuZX pic.twitter.com/em0HyEtgxU

Kaufman was a funny guy but also one of my most terrifying job interviews ever. He will be missed. https://t.co/h23k1K61Zn

Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of @dailycamera editor Kevin Kaufman today. I worked for Kevin for 20 years, and he was a friend, mentor and fearless newspaperman. He taught me, above all else, that journalism is not only vitally important, but a hell of a lot of fun

It’s going to be a tough week in the @dailycamera and @TimesCall newsroom. Today we lost our ally and Boulder County lost an ally to the truth. Kevin Kaufman, our longtime editor, died this morning surrounded by his family. He fought hard to keep journalists in the newsroom.

Profoundly saddened to hear of the death of @dailycamera editor Kevin Kaufman (@Kevin_Kaufman). No one did more to keep honest local journalism alive in #Boulder despite developments on the business side he saw with very clear eyes. Condolences to his family and the newsroom.

Kevin Kaufman was fierce. When I was a new reporter, he could be intimidating. But what I’ll remember is the crooked smile of support you’d get from him when you wanted to take a risk. I’m so sad he’s gone. So glad I got to work with him.

Joining many across Colorado mourning the death of @dailycamera editor Kevin Kaufman. A consummate newspaper editor; feisty, smart and committed to serving the readers. He stuck up for the people in his newsrooms. I owe him a lot. Local journalism is poorer today.
