Joan Wilmer Young

Age 89, of Crest Hill and formerly Chicago and Berwyn, IL, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at home. Born May 4, 1929 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Walter and May (nee Henningsen) Wilmer. Joan was an active volunteer for the Youth Baseball Organization in Berwyn, IL where she assisted with running the concession stand for many years. She enjoyed camping at Woodhaven Lakes.

Joan is survived by her sons, Guy Young of Brookfield, IL, Steven (Carol) Young of Geneva, IL and David Young of Joliet, IL; grandchildren, Craig Young of Naperville, IL, Kyle Young of Chicago, IL, Eric Young of Boulder, CO, Keith Young of Romeoville, IL, and Megan Young of Joliet, IL; siblings, Betty Trawinski of Skokie, IL and Jerry (Jill) Wilmer of Joliet, IL; and sister-in-law, Judy Wilmer of Farmington, MO. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Young; her parents; and brother, Herb Wilmer.

A Memorial Gathering for Joan Young will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. A Service of Remembrance will begin at 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place privately at Elm Lawn Cemetery, Elmhurst, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo, 3300 Golf Rd., Brookfield, IL 60513 would be appreciated.
