BOULDER, CO -- A mandatory detour is now in effect at the Rock Creek Preserve on Boulder County Open Space. A section of the Cradleboard Trail at Carolyn Holmberg Preserve at Rock Creek Farm, part of the Rock Creek Trail, has been temporarily closed to protect sensitive ground nesting birds, according to a news release from the county.

Although there is a detour provided, Parks and Open Space officials warn that it may not be suitable for road bikes due to the rough terrain. The trail will fully reopen after the young birds fledge, which could be as late as Oct. 31. If the birds leave the nest early, the trail will reopen at that time.

Updates will be posted to the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve at Rock Creek Farm web page.
