BOULDER COUNTY, CO — The asphalt has been removed between the Poorman Fire Station and 1033 Fourmile Canyon Drive and crews are preparing for paving work to begin on Friday, Oct. 4. Until then, the road will be gravel, so officials are urging extra caution when driving in the area.

In a notice to residents, Boulder County Transportation spokesperson Andrew Barth said one lane of the road will be closed until the paving begins, and delays are expected. The road will be returned to two lanes at the end of each workday.

Starting at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, paving crews will begin applying the first layer of asphalt in the southern work zone. Work will continue through the weekend to take advantage of an open SH 119/Boulder Canyon Drive.

"Please consider using Poorman Road to avoid paving operations and delays if you live above the Poorman Fire Station," Barth's letter read.

Flaggers will be used to guide travelers safely around paving operations. Crews will work from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, 5, and 6.

"I apologize for the weekend work and extended hours, but it is the only time we can haul loads of asphalt unobstructed through Boulder Canyon," Barth said. "The schedule for the second and final layer of asphalt in this section has not yet been determined. We will try to complete this operation during normal working hours, if possible."
