RTD To Operate On Reduced Schedule Amid Coronavirus Spread

The Regional Transportation District board voted unanimously to operate on a reduced schedule from April 17 to Sept. 20. The decision was in response to a 70 percent decrease in ridership.

All buses and trains will switch to weekend schedules.

Amid Denver and Boulder's stay-at-home orders, which began Tuesday evening, people are only allowed to ride trains and buses for essential travel.

"Essential travel includes trips for groceries, to get necessary healthcare and medication, or to reach an essential job," An RTD public notice read. "Don't take unnecessary trips, limit time spent in RTD stations to 10 minutes and, as often as possible, keep a distance of 6 feet between yourself and other passengers."

RTD administrative buildings, including 1660 Blake St, remain closed to all visitors until further notice, officials said.

As more people practice "social distancing" amid the spread of the new coronavirus across Colorado, the Regional Transportation District is facing a large decline in ridership, transit officials said.

RTD's Access-a-Ride paratransit service also has seen a steady decline in bookings.
