St. Vrain Greenway Trail Closed This Week
A segment of the path will be closed April 22–26 for construction related to the Resilient St. Vrain project.
LONGMONT, CO — The stretch of the St. Vrain Greenway Trail between the floodgates on either side of Main Street will be closed to all users from April 22–26, according to a news release from the City of Longmont. The segment will receive irrigation and flood work as a part of the Reilient St. Vrain project.
A response to the 2013 floods, Resilient St. Vrain is an extensive, multi-year project to fully restore the greenway and improve the St. Vrain Creek channel with a goal of protecting people, property and infrastructure from future flood risk. A wider channel will be capable of conveying more water safely, shrinking the surrounding floodplain in the event of future extreme weather incidents. The complete project is estimated to cost between $120 and $140 million dollars and will be financed through a variety of city funds.
Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to take alternate routes this week. A full, interactive map of all closures is available here.
