[LONGMONT CO, JULY 7, 2020] β€” If you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, poor diet, lack of exercise, social isolation, alcohol/drug abuse, poor sleep or financial strain, more so than usual since the coronavirus outbreak, you most likely are suffering from Stress Disorder during COVID-19.

All of these stresses are also risk factors for memory loss and cognitive decline, which if not addressed early enough could be irreversible. Early detection of memory loss and taking proactive steps now can help protect your memories and improve your brain performance.

In response to this growing health issue, Flatirons Family Pharmacy in Longmont announced today that it will now provide the Cognivue Thriveβ„’ assessment program for their patients and our community. This computerized assessment program is based on the same FDA-cleared technology used to assess cognitive health by neurologists.

β€œWhile most people are concerned about memory loss,” said Dr. Jennifer Palazzolo owner of Flatirons Family Pharmacy β€œvery few have ever had a professional brain health assessment to understand and establish a baseline measure of their cognitive ability. The Coronavirus pandemic has made these baseline assessments even more urgent, as research has shown nearly everyone has been negatively affected by at least one of 16 stress disorders since COVID-19. β€œ

Cognivue Thriveβ„’ uses advanced technology to compute Brain Health Scores for your Memory, Visuospatial, and Executive Function abilities, in addition to Reaction Time and Processing Speed. At the completion of the five-minute computerized assessment, a Flatirons Pharmacist provides the patient with their personalized results and Cogniwell, an individualized action plan to help identify things you can do that could improve and protect your brain performance.

Studies have shown taking proactive steps now may help reduce one’s risk of getting dementia. β€œIf someone is already experiencing memory loss or other cognitive issues, there are things they can do now, that could slow their memory loss and even improve their brain performance.” Dr. Palazzolo adds.

Establishing a baseline score and having annual assessments are recommended for all individuals, young and old; this enables identification of cognitive improvements and, importantly, early detection of any decline in cognitive ability. In recognition of the importance of this screening, especially in light of the COVID-19 situation, Flatirons Family Pharmacy will be providing free cognitive screenings on Thursday July 16th, by appointment.
