Broomfield Man Murdered, Dismembered His Father: Prosecutors
Nicholas Licata, 33, is charged with the death of his father Frank Licata of Lafayette.

BROOMFIELD, CO— More details were released by the court in the 17th Judicial District Wednesday about the murder of a 61-year-old Lafayette man in Broomfield in January.
Nicholas Licata, 33, was arrested in connection with the death and dismemberment of his father, Frank Licata at the younger Licata's home in Broomfield.
Police were called to the 100 block of Agate Way to investigate a death the morning of Jan. 18. An arrest affidavit, obtained by Denver7, said the body was "missing a hand and foot" and that a "large knife or sword" was the possible weapon.

In a 911 call made by Nicholas Licata’s uncle, the caller said his nephew was “chopping up Frank,” the affidavit said. Officers had to taser Nicholas Licata to get him to drop the blade. Nicholas Nicata's wife had worried that Nicholas was having an "episode" and removed her child from the house, the station reported.

An obituary for Frank Licata said he owned Frank Licata Carpentry for more than 30 years, and grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York. He is survived by wife Denise, daughter Michelle, son in law DeShaun, son Nicholas and daughter in law Andrea and two grandchildren.

Nicholas Licata was charged Jan. 24 with first-degree murder, second-degree assault (strangulation) and child abuse, according to court records.
Nicholas Licata is being held without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 12.
