Broomfield Teens Trade Vapes For Free Rec Passes
Teens dropped off their vapes Monday night at a local center and received three-month recreation passes.
BROOMFIELD, CO — Teens headed to a Broomfield recreation center Monday night to trade their vapes in for a free three-month rec pass. The trades were offered with "no questions and no judgment," Broomfield park district officials said. The swap was offered at the Paul Derda Rec Center between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Colorado leads the nation in youth use of vapor products, with 27 percent of teens currently vaping, according to the Colorado Department of Health and Environment.
In Broomfield and Boulder counties, 36 percent of teens reported vaping in a recent study. Broomfield Public Health and Environment staff are partnering with schools and youth-serving organizations to educate the community about the risks of vaping.
