Plane Drops Debris From Sky Before Emergency Landing In Denver

The reports of falling debris in neighborhoods throughout Broomfield started coming in just after 1 p.m., police said.

BROOMFIELD, CO — A plane experiencing engine trouble on Saturday was reportedly dropping debris throughout several neighborhoods as it flew through the skies over Broomfield, police confirmed on Twitter.

The reports of debris started to come in just after 1 p.m., police said, adding later that debris was found in Commons Park in addition to the Northmoor and Red Leaf neighborhoods. Police also said residents in the area reported hearing a loud explosion before debris started to fall.

The United Airlines flight was bound for Honolulu when it was forced to return to Denver International Airport on Saturday after suffering an engine issue, a spokesperson for the airport told CNN.

Police said the plane landed safely at the airport. No injuries have been reported.

Tyler Thal, who lives in the area, told The Associated Press that he was out for a walk with his family when he noticed a large commercial plane flying unusually low and took out his phone to film it

“While I was looking at it, I saw an explosion and then the cloud of smoke and some debris falling from it. It was just like a speck in the sky and as I’m watching that, I’m telling my family what I just saw and then we heard the explosion,” he told AP in a phone interview. “The plane just kind of continued on and we didn’t see it after that.”

Police have cautioned residents to not touch or move plane debris if they see it in their yard.
