U.S. 36 Sinking 2 Inches Per Hour
U.S. 36 has sunk more than 10 feet since last week, officials said.

As work continues on U.S. 36 west of Church Ranch Boulevard, the highway has been sinking two inches per hour, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. A landslide caused the road to collapse, and the road has sunk more than 10 feet over the past week.
The concrete continues to crack and pieces have been falling off. The crack has grown to more than 300 feet long and 60 feet wide, CDOT said.
The department opened eastbound lanes of U.S. 36 a day ahead of schedule. Two westbound lanes were converted into eastbound lanes in time for Tuesday's rush hour. The westbound lanes were not compromised, CDOT said. The lanes are separated by concrete barriers.

"Travel is this area will be slower than usual, so motorists are advised to expect some delays and give themselves extra time when traveling the corridor during peak periods," CDOT said in a news release.
Part of the U.S. 36 bike trail has also collapsed, and a detour is in place.
