Westminster Man Pleads Guilty To Stabbing Mother, Sister

BRIGHTON, CO – A 24-year-old man pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder of his mother and first-degree assault of his sister in an attack that occurred in Westminster in 2017, the 17th District District Attorney's Office said.

Prosecutors said on Oct. 7, 2017, Ramirez followed his mother Cherie Ramirez, 41, to a neighbor's home, where she had fled to escape his attack, and dragged her back to her home in the 7700 block of Lowell Boulevard, and then stabbed her repeatedly and hit her head with a hammer.

Westminster police responding to a 911 call found Cherie Ramirez unconscious on the floor with a severe head injury, the DA's office said. She was later pronounced dead at Denver Health Medical Center.

Anecia Ramirez, age 24, also was stabbed and bleeding from her mouth and torso, prosecutors said. She survived the attack. Three children under age 10 also were in the home at the time of the attack and fled to a neighbor’s home, authorities said.

Police found Adrian Ramirez "in the house covered in blood, holding a knife and a hammer." He was taken into custody, the DA's office said.

Adrian Ramirez's guilty plea agreement calls for a sentence of 48 years in prison, the DA's office said.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 16, 2019, in Adams County District Court.
